Lateral Link Survey Highlights Attorneys Concern Regarding Current Market Turmoil.
A recent Lateral Link survey revealed that nearly 42% of attorneys are concerned for their jobs as a result of recent market conditions. This is up from 27% of attorneys who expressed similar concerns after the collapse of Bear Stearns in March. According to Lateral Link Director, Justin Bernold, "Associates are beginning to see more turmoil in the financial market trickling down into their careers." Lateral Link's survey results were picked up by Bloomberg, Business Week, The Washington Times, The ABA Journal and the National Law Journal.

BR LEGAL CASE STUDY
|
| Roy Carrasquillo at Kaye Scholer mentored a Cornell law student for a new company based on a Cornell technology used for patterning organic materials and manufacturing certain OLEDs and possible other organic derivatives. The project involved setting up a DE corporation with a view towards future venture funding. Mr. Carrasquillo commented on the Cornell student, "mentoring the Cornell law student was great – kind of like a project based interview – and the students really get a lot out of the experience." |

How should I prepare for my upcoming interview ?
Arriving at an interview, you want to ensure that you are an informed candidate. That means knowing the particular company you are interviewing with inside and out as it applies to you. According to Michael Kayan, Hiring Partner at Constantine Cannon, "Substantive preparation by the candidate before an interview is obviously important. Good preparation generally connotes interest and seriousness of purpose on the part of a candidate. I like to ask a candidate what s/he already knows about our firm, and then I'll elaborate on that initial base of knowledge. I'm impressed when a candidate has done more than pay a quick visit to our firm's website, and disappointed when a candidate has merely done that, or less.”
According to Kayan, you should do your research. There are numerous sources you can look to and specific items that you should review prior to your interview.
